Lacie and Doug enjoying a glass of wine

At The Next Vintage, we are Doug and Lacie, a husband and wife team that share a passion for all things wine. With several years of experience in the wine industry, we specialize in wine education, exploration, and tailored consulting services for small businesses. We both hold our Wine & Spirits Education Trust Level 3 (WSET 3) and Certified Specialist in Wine (CSW) certifications.

Having successfully branded, scaled, and sold two specialty wine bars and wine shops, we know the ins and outs of the industry like the back of our hands (which, by the way, also happen to be great at holding a glass). Our journey through the world of wine has fueled our desire to share our insights and help others thrive—because let’s face it, wine is better when shared. Now that the sale of our second business is finalized, we decided to take another leap, this time into the winemaking and production side of things. In July, we made our way to Napa where we were knee deep in tanks along with stained purple hands throughout our harvest experience. We worked with a producer in the Carneros region of Napa Valley; to say we learned a lot is an understatement.

After a successful harvest season in Napa, Doug is now gearing up to teach a Vines to Wines course at Truckee Meadows Community College starting in early February. Topics will range from the history and evolution of wine, vineyard management, winemaking processes, varietals, wine regions of the world, service, food & wine pairings, and a tasting component to evaluate wine with sensory applications. Overall, this is set to be a fun and interactive course no matter the starting level of wine knowledge. A

Prior to our work in the wine industry, Doug honorably served for 31 years in the U.S. Navy, both in the enlisted and officer ranks, retiring in late 2014 at the rank of Commander in the Special Operations community. Post-military, following a passion for long-distance running, served as the Director of Operations for both the Boston and New York City Marathons.

With a rich background in the running industry, Lacie founded Swirlgear, a women’s running apparel brand, and consulted for large-scale marathons and cycling events across the US. Additionally, she served as the Vice President of Heatsheets, a premier manufacturer of reflective insulation products commonly seen at marathon finish lines worldwide.

We offer several specialized services. Please check out our Services tab for detailed information.

We hope you'll follow along.
